Dedication: To my father, who taught us the names of trees and so much more.

Illustrator, Maja Wizor

Harry’s Trees came about through the author’s desire to share her father’s legacy with her grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews. As Harry’s children grew, he taught them the names of trees, took them on trips to the woodlot to learn about trees and wildflowers. He planted trees and trimmed ones with broken branches, ensuring their health.

Dad

At the end of Harry’s life, his family gave out small tree seedlings as a fitting symbol of his lifelong love. His legacy will continue through this little forest planted for generations to come.

I think your book is wonderful. It doesn’t moralize like so many children’s books have done. Harry seems to breathe in the world around him in a contented and thoughtful way. I particularly like the picture of your Dad – a boy and his dog.

Thanks for writing this reflection and for finding such a talented sensitive illustrator. I’m looking forward to having a chance to share this with people at the church.

Totally beautiful book… wish I’d had it when I was 5 (or thereabouts).
